”Around the large cement factory, the dust settled on the roofs of houses and the branches of trees.
When it rained the dust congealed into cement. Just like the lungs of the workers, the architecture was slowly damaged and corroded, and the trees were turned into living fossils”
Misanthropologi is a site-specific exhibition focusing on architectonic traumas inspired by the recent history of Aalborg, which is a city undergoing a massive change from an society based on industrial production to one based on knowledge- and experience-economy, predicated by speculative construction endeavours. The exhibition is concerned with a semi fictional analysis of certain agents manifested in the built environment and geographies relating to Aalborg’s past, that have now been deemed either harmful or obsolete, but continue to haunt the city and in many ways act as resilient ghosts. Agents that are both products of industrial capitalism, and are at the same time elements that resist the capitalisation of the urban space through the construction of a new city on the poisoned grounds of the old. The exhibition explores non-human elements such as cement dust, toxic sites, asbestos, capital and architecture and stages these as demoniacally complicit agents in a landscape haunted by slow catastrophes.
The exhibition is constructed around a rewriting of the futurist opera Victory Over The Sun
